The Role
This is a pivotal role for professionals looking to drive projects forward, expand their technical expertise, and make a real impact. Based in our newly established Newcastle office, you will play a key role in managing and delivering projects across a range of environmental and/or occupational hygiene disciplines. You will support the team leader in growing this small team, contributing to business development efforts, and helping to shape the future of our Newcastle operations. Additionally, the role offers the opportunity to travel to the scenic Coffs Harbour region to support key projects for our wider team—perfect for someone who enjoys being mobile and exploring new places.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project delivery, including overseeing budgets and timelines, to ensure successful completion within scope and budget.
- Lead and coordinate field programs, including environmental assessments, occupational hygiene surveys, soil, groundwater, air, and vibration monitoring.
- Produce comprehensive technical reports while ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key point of contact for major projects.
- Prepare proposals and contribute to tenders for new business.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and local authorities to ensure project approvals and regulatory compliance.
- Provide guidance and share expertise to support the development of junior staff.
- Drive continuous improvement in environmental and occupational hygiene practices within the business, promoting innovation and sustainability in project solutions.
- Contribute to the development of internal systems and processes, ensuring efficiency and quality in project delivery.
What We’re Looking For:

For Environmental Consultants:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in environmental science or consulting.
- Aptitude in designing, planning, and implementing contaminated land management projects.
- Advanced technical ability coupled with strong report writing capability.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- A strong understanding of NSW contaminated land management legislation (e.g., NEPM, PFAS NEMP, and ANZG).
- Experience in preparing fee proposals and managing stakeholders (clients, regulators, etc.).
- Full current Driver Licence issued by an Australian State or Territory.
For Occupational Hygiene Consultants:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational hygiene, environmental science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in occupational hygiene assessments and consulting.
- Proficiency in conducting occupational hygiene surveys, including air monitoring, noise assessments, and hazardous materials surveys.
- Advanced technical ability coupled with strong report writing capability.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Understanding of relevant occupational health and safety legislation and guidelines.
- Experience in preparing fee proposals and managing stakeholders (clients, regulators, etc.).
- Full current Driver Licence issued by an Australian State or Territory.
Bonus Skills
Although not essential, the following would be valuable in your role with ENV:
- Strong understanding of both NSW and QLD contaminated land management legislation and waste management framework.
- GIS capabilities (GPS sampling grids, groundwater contours, site plans, and maps).
- Industry association accreditations.
- Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA).
- Membership with professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH).
