Unlocking the Future of Landfill Leachate Treatment
An innovative R&D process developed by ENV Engineers and scientists, Biological Leachate Remediation offers a comprehensive solution for end-to-end landfill leachate treatment. This breakthrough approach emerged in response to the aftermath of the Northern NSW flood events in 2022.
Why is This Approach Different?
Combining physical, biological, polishing, and disinfection water treatment processes, Biological Leachate Remediation effectively addresses both the physical and chemical challenges commonly associated with leachate treatment. After undergoing rigorous trials, third-party evaluation, and the publication of a detailed white paper, the Biological Leachate Remediation process secured regulatory approval through successful proof-of-performance (PoP). This accomplishment led to a regulatory amendment in the environmental license, allowing the direct discharge of treated leachate into trade waste or the natural environment.
Benefits Over Conventional Methods
Biological Leachate Remediation represents a pivotal innovation in tackling the substantial environmental and societal issues often tied to conventional leachate management methods. It stands as a testament to innovative thinking and robust engineering practices, offering a cost-effective and alternative industry approach for handling excessive landfill leachate treatment.
The 3-Step Process to Environmental Excellence
Step 1: Crafting the Perfect Leachate Management Plan and conducting a Receiving Environment Geomorphological Impact Assessment.
Developing a Leachate Management Plan Tailoring the engineering design to the unique conditions of each site, ENV engineers and scientists collaborate closely with clients. This involves gaining an in-depth understanding of leachate’s chemical composition, landfill design, seasonal variations in leachate generation, existing infrastructure, discharge options impact assessment, and license conditions. These crucial parameters are then formalised in a comprehensive leachate management plan.
Step 2: Teaming Up with Regulators for Proven Results
Collaboration with Regulators and Proof-of-Performance Through constructive engagement with both clients and regulators, ENV secures endorsement for the leachate management plan. This often leads to the establishment of site-specific Water Quality Objectives (WQO) aligned with national, state, and local regulations. ENV then proceeds to deploy a Biological Leachate Remediation treatment plant and demonstrate how it meets the site-specific WQOs.
Step 3: Ensuring Seamless Operation
Build, Operate and Maintain Providing a range of options for building, operating, and maintaining, ENV’s engineers collaborate with clients to implement and continuously oversee the site-specific Biological Leachate Remediation process. This process efficiently treats Contaminants of Potential Concern (COPC), ensuring compliance with the Leachate Management Plan WQOs.
ENV harnesses specialised expertise to deliver innovative solutions in remediation, occupational hygiene, specialty projects, environmental consulting, and more.
